Billy looked up from an article about matching shoe styles to pocket squares--he was bored, he didn't care, none of this mattered to him--and gave Goodnight a long look. There was a lot happening that look, as his looks often had a lot happening in them.

Slowly, he got up from the table, and he came over to the couch. He delicately plucked magazine from Goodnight's hands, even though he'd just picked it up, and he placed himself in Goodnight's lap docilely.

"I would go down to that courthouse right now, if you'd let me," he said earnestly.
