He huffed a laugh. "I think both of us are long past the day of being made honest men," he said with a wry smile Billy's way.

But Goodnight's attention drifted down to the picture and he smiled small. Maybe looking for a jeweler wouldn't be a bad first step. Then he'd at least have a ring for when he finally got the gumption to actually ask Billy to marry him.

It seemed like such a backwards prospect now. Normally he might have asked someone to spend the rest of their life with him, and yet here he and Billy were, nearly ten years on. He supposed they still had plenty of life ahead of them, though, now at they were here.
